Origin stories by five Macedonian founders
My Best Online Assistant, Vendor, Impala Research, April 22, and Hoyo Tech founders share their origin stories in a new video series created in collaboration with Martin Nikolovski.
What does an origin story it look like in North Macedonia today?
Entrepreneurial journeys are shaped as much by context as by ambition. Looking at how startups begin offers valuable insight into the realities founders face—especially in emerging startup ecosystems.
In the summer of 2025, Martin Nikolovski spoke with five startup founders from North Macedonia to explore how their companies were formed, which problems they chose to address, and how early decisions influenced their development. The conversations focus on the starting point of each venture and its outcomes.
Across the interviews, several common themes emerge: strong personal motivation, limited local resources, the need to think beyond local markets early on, and the constant trade-offs involved in building under uncertainty. At the same time, each story is rooted in a specific context, reflecting different sectors, approaches, and founder experiences.
The result of this experiment is a series of five video stories that provide a grounded, first-hand view of how startups are taking shape in North Macedonia today.
